THE  HISTORY  OF  THE  CAE  DAI  TRUST

The Cae Dai Trust was established by Sparrow Harrison in 1992 in response to the closure of the North Wales Hospital (also known as 'The Mental' or 'The Asylum'). At its peak the hospital housed up to 1500 patients and had its own farm, water-powered generator and gasworks.

At this time, Sparrow, who was aware of the patients' problems from his own health issues and who also had a godson who was a patient at the hospital, noticed more patients coming over to Cae Dai. This eventually led to some rules being put into place, and all beneficiaries are now encouraged to keep active with light work such as dusting, sweeping up etc., as well as socialising over a cup of tea!
